Hollow Glass Microspheres
Hollow glass microspheres • Strength-to-density balance

3M™ Glass Bubbles
K-37

General-purpose, high-strength hollow glass microspheres offering a strong balance of low density and process survivability for demanding industrial formulations.

Typical true density 0.37 g/cc
At 80% isostatic survival 3,000 psi
Median particle size, D50 45 µm
Average packing factor 60%

More volume. Less mass.

K37 combines 0.37 g/cc true density with 3,000 psi crush strength, providing a versatile strength-to-density ratio for high-build coatings, polymer compounds and thermoset systems.

POLYMER COMPOUNDING

Lower compound density with spherical filler geometry; add downstream through a side stuffer or top feeder where appropriate.

HIGH-BUILD COATINGS

Weight reduction, sag resistance and insulation potential in suitable protective and marine coating systems.

ADHESIVES & SEALANTS

Lightweight volume extension in mastics, adhesives and sealants where process survival has been confirmed.

PAINTS & COATINGS

Reduced dry-film density, thermal expansion, noise and vibration in suitable industrial formulations.

Built for lightweight systems

Representative application imagery. Final suitability depends on resin chemistry, processing shear, pressure, loading and end-use requirements.

Flexible PVC tubing production

K37 for lightweight polymer compounds and extrusion processes after process-survival validation.

Protective coating being applied to industrial pipe

K37 supports lightweight mastics and sealants where processing and performance are fully validated.

Flexible PVC tubing production

K37 provides a useful strength-to-density balance in suitable thermoset resin composite systems.

Protective coating being applied to industrial pipe

K37 for high-build, marine and insulation-oriented protective coatings.

Density and strength

Charts reproduce K37 values from the supplied technical data sheet and compare its strength-to-density position with lighter K-series grades.

True density

Typical true density of K-series grades
Relative scale, g/cc. At equal solid volume, the low particle density creates substantial lightweighting potential.

Isostatic pressure at stated survival

Isostatic crush test pressure of K-series grades
Pressure in psi at 80% survival by volume; K15 and K25 values are K-series catalogue references.

Protect flow and integrity

Keep unopened cartons dry and temperature-controlled. Avoid high humidity, condensation and unnecessary dust generation.

01 / STORE DRY

Store dry

Reseal opened bags immediately and use first-in/first-out inventory practices.

02 / CONTROL DUST

Control dust

Use local exhaust or dust collection and transfer through closed systems where practical.

03 / USE PPE

Use PPE

Use safety glasses with side shields and consult the SDS for exposure controls and respiratory protection.
